In 3 July 1967,this coin was first minted in the aim of marketing the South African gold. The krugerrand was conceived when there was a need to link a gold coin with the daily gold price in South Africa.
"The effigy of Paul Kruger, the first President of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR) is depicted on the obverse. The reverse was originally designed and engraved by the famous sculptor, Coert Steynberg, and features one of South Africa’s national animal, a Springbok." - South Africa Munt
When was the first ever silver Kruger minted
The first 1 oz silver krugerrand was minted in 2017, which was introduced in the the munt's 50 th anniversary range. The commemorative series are distinguished by a '50' privy seal mark above the springbok design.
