Description
The Great Britain Silver Britannia Coin
The Silver Britannia coin features the iconic image of Britannia, standing resolute against a fierce storm. This symbol of strength and resilience has adorned British coinage since Roman times, representing the nation’s power and integrity. In 2021, the design was upgraded with advanced security features, including surface animation, a latent image, tincture lines, and micro-text, enhancing the coin’s protection against counterfeiting. Silver Britannia coins are available for purchase in mint tubes containing 25 coins or in sealed 500-coin “Monster Boxes,” alongside individual coins.
The Great Britain Britannia Coin Series
The Britannia coin series was first introduced in 1987 with the 1 oz Gold Britannia. The Royal Mint began producing the 1 oz Silver Britannia in 1997 as a Proof coin, followed by a bullion version in 1998. Coins minted from 1998 to 2012 contained .958 fine silver, while from 2013 onward, the bullion coins have been minted with .999 fine silver. Today, the Britannia series includes a range of sizes in Gold, Platinum, and Silver, with both Brilliant Uncirculated and limited-edition Proofs available each year.
In 2023, The Royal Mint released the final Britannia coin featuring the effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as part of a limited run. This was followed by the debut of the 2023 Britannia coin featuring the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
