A subspecies of leopards, the African leopard is found in numerous regions of sub-Saharan Africa. While generally singled out for its speed, the African leopard is also incredibly strong. In the forests of Africa, you might even find them hauling their dead prey up a tree in order to prevent Hyenas and other pests from stealing it. With their beautiful spotted coats, leopards are often confused with cheetahs. However, one easy way to differentiate them is that you won’t find facial stripes on a leopard.
The obverse of 2023 1 oz South African Big Five Series II Leopard Silver Coins features the face of a leopard. The leopard here is depicted in closeup, its head tilted slightly to the right side. Below this is the South African Coat of arms. Inscriptions are also included reading South Africa, Big Five, 2023.
On the reverse of 2023 1 oz South African Leopard Silver Coins, there are a pair of leopards depicted in closeup. This unique design shows us one-half of each of the leopard’s faces and contains a striking level of detail. If you line up multiples of these coins side by side, they will form a complete image of the leopard’s face. Reverse inscriptions read Five Rand, 1 oz, Ag .999.
These coins are considered legal tender in South Africa and will arrive with a Certificate of Authenticity and a protective blister card.
